In the European Union, food supplements are classed as food, not medicine. They are governed by Directive 2002/46/EC and national rules, so anyone who wants to sell MARNYS® or other food supplements needs to know a few basics.
Notification in each country
In most member states, a product must be notified to the competent authority before it is placed on the market. In Hungary this is the National Food Chain Safety Office (NÉBIH). We help international partners with local product notification and provide the documents it requires.
Labelling in the local language
Mandatory consumer information must be shown in the official language of the country of sale. The label includes, among other things, the recommended daily dose with a warning not to exceed it, and a warning to keep the product out of reach of young children.
Authorised health claims only
Health claims may only be used in the authorised wording on the EU list (Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 and Regulation (EU) No 432/2012). Wording that refers to preventing, treating or curing a disease is prohibited for food supplements, and this also applies to product descriptions in online shops.
